Nice work, Dan.
I don't think this is necessary a fundamental problem with Unity3D. We're only seeing this particular problem with beta software, namely IE8 and Chrome, by the sounds of it. In our testing, it works without this problem on Windows IE7, Firefox and Opera, as well as Mac Safari. On the other hand, the Unity dev env is Mac-based, so it's possible there are some Windows issues with the web player. I'm pretty sure it will turn out to be some UAC/DEP issue which will hopefully soon be solved, fixed in a Unity update, or fixed when Unity for Windows comes out (which is rumoured to be in the works right now). Naturally, I hope we'll hit upon a solution sooner than later.
Apart from all that, it's a very interesting idea you've put forward. We've just launched the beta so we're very busy at the moment, but I do definitely want to discuss this with you further. I will follow up with you in a PM when I get back into the office tomorrow. Thanks again for your input.
